Cole’s photoshopped artwork immediately caught my eye with its beautiful blues. I found the perfect painted protea at the Boston Flower Market to match those tones, and kept the rest of the arrangement simple with limonium, veronica, eryngium, and moss so the protea could really shine. The final, personal touch was adding fir and stones I found right here in our fields to tie the whole piece together.

I love the serenity in this work, evoked by the constrained palette and a sophisticated use of repetition and variation. Shapes are simplified, rendered in near complimentary colors: the orange leans into yellow; the blue into purple. It portrays the twin city of Detroit, my birthplace – beautifully!

We explored the theme of life and death in Mary Wollstonecraft’s Frankenstein using both living and dead materials. We were drawn to the striking color scheme in the artist’s depiction of the monster.

I was immediately drawn to this piece because the artist, Liam, is my grandson. Beyond the family connection, I found the symmetry of his infographic truly inspiring. To mirror the straight, architectural lines of the towers, I chose a parallel arrangement. Since a clean, vertical line is best represented with restraint, I kept the design simple, using just a few intentional spots of color.

I was thrilled to be assigned this amazing ceramic pot, and welcomed the challenge of interpreting it as a floral arrangement. I was attracted to the dripping feeling of the glaze and aimed to find floral material that could mimic that feeling. I also loved working with the oranges, maroons and blacks.

This sculpture does such a lovely job of capturing both the architecture of a reef and the diversity of its inhabitants. The attention paid to shape, color, and structure is remarkable. In creating the accompanying arrangement, I choose vessels which hint at a coral-like structure and filled them with a collection of diverse blooms which would cluster amongst themselves in a manner echoing that of the corals albeit in a more vertical distibution than the the coral’s horizontal spread.

I have always liked lighthouses, initially was glad to get this assignment. But as we walked in and shopped at the flower market in Chelsea on Wed., nothing really clicked. I passively chose the white snapdragons because they could represent the color of the lighthouse. The next I needed something red to show the rings around the lighthouse. At the last minute I picked up the red alstroemeria in a hurry because time was up. I had no idea how I was going to put them together. But today I am happy with my flower lighthouse and hope you enjoy it too.

I thought calla lilies would do well at representing the white parts of this sculpture which resemble teeth. The fuzzy nature of the piece was more challenging! Fortunately I had this vase that gave me the large scale I needed.

As an ocean sailor I liked your interpretation of landscape and plants being mirrored in water, like many islands at which we anchored our sailboat to admire different light affects during day/night shifts. The blue mountain reflects that thought. The container resembles a boat with the colors of the earth it reflects.

Nora’s painting of the butterfly was very colorful and beautiful. I was drawn to the simplicity of the piece and also the colors. I wouldn’t normally think of orange and blue going together in a floral arrangement, but I thought it would be an interesting challenge.

Lucy’s painting conveys the feelings of cold, isolation and grandeur through her use of simple forms and shades of cool blue. The simple arrangement reflects the peaceful nature of the painting using creamy white Calla Lillies (aka Peace Lillies) and grayl-blue Lavender with Ti leaves representing the mountains. The frigid atmosphere is repeated in the ice-like appearance of the glass container.
